Unlike the Terms and Privacy Policy, these rules are community-facing and less legally technical, but they work together with the Terms of Service. Update the point values and any specifics if platform configuration changes.
Welcome to DrawDown! DrawDown is a friendly, competitive art-battle community. The whole point is to make art of each other's characters and have fun doing it. These rules keep it fun, fair, and safe for everyone. Moderators enforce them, and their judgment is final (you can always appeal — see the bottom).
The short version
Be kind to people. Attack characters, not people. Keep it safe-for-work. Only draw characters you're allowed to draw. Don't cheat. Make real art.
The rules
1. Be decent
Harassment, hate speech, threats, and targeted attacks on people are not allowed and will get you removed. Remember the difference: a "friendly attack" on someone's character is the game and is encouraged. Going after a person is not. If you wouldn't say it to a friend, don't say it here.
2. Keep it safe-for-work
DrawDown is SFW. No sexual or pornographic content. No gore beyond mild, stylized cartoon violence. Nothing you'd need to hide from a 13-year-old. If you're not sure, it's probably too much — ask a moderator or leave it out. Moderators' judgment on what crosses the line is final.
3. Only draw registered characters, and respect their permissions
The game is drawing other people's registered characters. Every character page lists what its owner allows (for example, certain themes or content toggles). Draw within those permissions. Drawing a character in a way its owner has said they don't want means your attack gets removed. When in doubt, check the character's permissions before you draw.
4. No stolen characters or art
Only upload characters and artwork that are yours or that you have permission to use. Uploading someone else's original character or someone else's art as your own is a serious violation and can get you banned. If there's a dispute over who owns a character, the person claiming it should provide evidence (earlier posts, source files, dated uploads), and moderators will decide.
5. Put in real effort
Attacks should be a genuine artistic effort. Low-effort scribbles submitted just to farm points can be given zero points at a moderator's discretion. This isn't about skill level — everyone's welcome and all skill levels are celebrated — it's about actually trying.
6. No cheating or point manipulation
The system enforces when events start and end, so you can't attack outside the event window. Don't try to game scoring: no collusion to farm points off each other, no sock-puppet accounts, no manipulating community ratings. Attempts to cheat trigger the penalty ladder.
7. No AI-generated art
AI-generated or AI-assisted art is not allowed on DrawDown. Every attack must be your own human-made artwork. This applies to any art created wholly or partly with generative-AI tools — there is no opt-in and no tagging that makes it permitted; it simply isn't allowed here.
Submitting AI-generated art is a serious violation and is subject to the penalty ladder. We don't publicly accuse anyone based on automated detection; rulings are made privately by moderators based on reports and the balance of evidence.
8. Follow moderator instructions, and appeal the right way
If a moderator asks you to change or remove something, please do it. If you disagree, use the appeal process (site modmail) rather than arguing in the comments. Everyone has a better time when disagreements are handled calmly and privately.
Penalties
Most violations follow this ladder:
Warning → content removed and points stripped → disqualification from the current event → temporary suspension → ban.
Moderators may skip steps for serious cases such as art/character theft, harassment, or anything affecting safety.
For AI-generated art specifically:
- First offense: the attack is removed, its points are stripped, and you get a formal warning.
- Second offense: disqualification from the current event.
- Third offense: ban.
All penalties are logged with a reason. You can see your own penalty history. If you think a penalty was a mistake, you can appeal.
Appeals
If you believe a moderation decision or penalty was wrong, you can appeal through site modmail within 14 days. Explain what happened; a moderator who wasn't involved will take a look where possible. Please don't argue moderation calls in public comments — the appeal process exists exactly for this.
Reporting
See something that breaks these rules? Use the report button on the content. You can report rule-breaking, AI-generated art, character theft, harassment, copyright issues, or a user who appears to be under 13. Reports go to our moderation queue. During events, we aim to respond to reports within 48 hours.
A note on spirit
DrawDown works because people are generous with their characters and kind to each other. Draw your heart out, hype up other people's work, and keep the "attacks" friendly. That's the game.
